IBA_GAME

The German city of Heidelberg — famous for its old-town and castle — will develop a large new city quarter on the grounds of the Patrick Henry Village. With IBA_GAME you can create and share your idea what it could be like. In the game you create small neighbourhoods. Hundreds of them form the new city quarter designed by you and other players. Your best designs will be shown at a public exhibition in Heidelberg in March 2017 — so get building!

IBA_GAME is an initiative of the upcoming IBA Heidelberg, focussing on „knowledge based urbanism“. It is built on the 20.000 BLOCKS platform by the Digital Design Unit (DDU) at Technische Univesität Darmstadt and is made possible by the kind support of Eternit GmbH.

ABOUT 20.000 BLOCKS

20.000 BLOCKS is a collaborative platform based on the popular game Minecraft. It harnesses the collective intelligence of players into a powerful creative exploration tool. The platform can be adapted for various architectural, urban and design tasks. 20.000 BLOCKS has been presented at events and conferences around the world such as SmartGeometry 2016, ACADIA 2016 and Perspective Rules. Currently our team is working on the IBA_GAME with IBA Heidelberg. Learn how your project can benefit from 20.000 BLOCKS and the power of the internet crowd.

TEAM

20.000 BLOCKS is developed at the Digital Design Unit (DDU) at Technische Universität Darmstadt. We’re a group of architects, game designers and graphic artists passionate about the future of architecture in a networked world.

ANTON SAVOV

Anton believes that everyone on the planet could co-create their built environment using games and digital fabrication. This drives his work as a research associate at the Digital Design Unit (DDU) at the TU Darmstadt and as the founder of AWARE — Studio for Architecture. He initiated the platform 20.000 BLOCKS as a means to integrate collaborative architectural design and fabrication.

BEN BUCKTON

Ben’s passion is Innovation in Education. His work as a game designer aims to bring games into the world curriculum. He co-organizes the Frankfurt Independent Developer scene, bringing together unique and talented people. As one of the core members of Invent the World, Ben designs and runs game-based Holiday programs for children in Australia.

MARIOS MESSIOS

Marios pursues a Master in Architecture in Milan where he also works as a freelancer. After completing his Bachelor in Architecture at the University of Brighton he worked at Sauerbruch Hutton Architects in Berlin. He is the founder of studio messiosmarios that explores design ideas through collaboration and optimisation.

MAX RUDOLPH

Max is a Master student in Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin with a keen eye on collaborative design and the use of data and information from the targeted users. He is co-founder of Form Follows You, an office focused on user-generated architecture through digital collaboration and representation.

ALBAN VOSS

Alban is a freelance game designer, illustrator and all-around artist. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Fachhochschule Rhein-Main. His portfolio spans from comic projects, illustration and web design to pixel art and game design. Alban is actively engaged in the German Indie-game scene.
After losing most of his hearing in 2012, the topic of inclusion of the disabled became a big concern for him. In his free time he teaches game design to kids and teens.

LORENA MÜLLER

Lorena is currently studying Animation and Game Design at the Mediencampus Dieburg of Hochschule Darmstadt. She focuses mainly on animating assets that others and/or she herself created.

SEBASTIAN KOTTERER

Sebastian became a master carpenter at the age of 23 and his first thought always is “Could I build this out of wood?”. He currently studies architecture at the TU Darmstadt. His interests lie in making, digital technologies and robotic construction.

JÖRG HARTMANN

Jörg completed his bachelor in Systems Engineering in the field of plastics technology in 2009. He worked as a project manager in the furniture industry. Since 2014 he studies architecture at the TU Darmstadt where he explores the link between computational analysis and digital fabrication.
